Can i buy my past?

How about buying back a part of my past? I have money. I can write a cheque. Will that help?

Can I buy back the time when the rat race for life was unheard of, where you could spend hours with your friends playing hide n seek in the dark till 11 in the night, when we would fight with each other on who will be the next one to bat, and then run away with the bat and let no one play, when we would go cycling with our friends traveling to places where we were not allowed to. Can I buy back the time when earning money and settling down was laughed at, when there were no client calls, no presentations, when we can sing, dance and shout at the top of our voices without people staring and giving us weird looks. Our first outstation trip, our first movie with friends, the first time we kissed, the first time we fell in love... these are all the glorious moments which are there in our hearts forever, with no monetary value but a HUGE emotional value. Can I, PLEASE, buy it back?

The attached nostalgia with the times spent leaves a kind of sweet pain in your hearts. Something which you'd like to get back to, but knowing that it can't be brought back. Probably that's what describes life, and it's all about moving on, maybe for the better...

Common Wealth Games

We as humans, or more precisely, Indians have a very cynical attitude towards everything that is happening around us. We always have a habit of seeing the negative aspects of a situation rather than appreciating the positives, be it anything. Common Wealth Games are a MAJOR example of this.

No wonder the CWG could have been better planned and organized by the government and there could have been stringent checks on the quality and timely delivery of stadia, and the overall execution and management of the events. But the negative publicity CWG got, thanks to the India media, the spirit of the games was totally lost. Everyone seems to be questioning the 70k crores spent on organizing the event and failed to see positive side of the coin. No one appreciated the reconstruction of the collapsed FOB in JN stadium is just 5 DAYS! No one appreciated the 2 metro lines which connected the entire south Delhi to it's satellite township of Gurgaon and Noida, construction of metro Airport link line, construction of the ENTIRE games village, complete renovation of the stadia and the facilities provided to the athletes, renovation of Connaught Place, beautification of Delhi roads etc. And for the uninitiated, the 70k crores money INCLUDES everything that has been mentioned here. If a single Emporio Mall in Vasant Kunj can take 11k crores in it's construction, I feel 70k crores is justified, considering the amount of work that has been done.

But sadly, no one seems to remember that. The credit goes to the mismanaged and corrupt media though, which in the race to increase their TRPs broadcast news which will gain maximum viewership. And who doesn't like bitching?

There was corruption, there was money which found it's place to the politicians' bank accounts which could have been better utilized in organizing the event. There as an article on BBC by Tom Fordyce showing pictures of Indian slums and the raising a "moral question" about whether CWG being held in Delhi and 70k crores being spent on it was ethically right when you see that many Indians live at less than a pound a day earnings. It was India's honest effort to be at par with the west which claims to be flawless. Every country has it's problems. Even the ultra elite west is fallible,  people live below poverty line in western countries as well, there are murders, thefts and epidemics in western countries as well. Most of the negative publicity India gathered, again thanks to the bullshit media we have here, was exaggerated. John MacKinnon, a sports columnist from Canada who is here for 2 weeks covering the CWG said "I think the negative press the event organisers and India has been receiving are exaggerated and unfair. Most of the athletes from Canada, New Guinea, Tonga and UK have reported that they are pretty satisfied with the way things are taken care of, especially the security".

All in all, it is a successful event with a few glitches here and there, which is part of organizing  an event of this magnitude. There could have been a better managed show, no doubt, but it was definitely not worth attracting this huge negative publicity. The Media left no stone unturned to tarnish India's image to the international community, but however, the opening ceremony said it all. It made me feel immensely proud seeing the opening ceremony, the spirit of the games came back! Jai Hind!

Ayodhya or CWG?

I was just wondering why the government has decided to announce the Ayodhya verdict just before the start of Common Wealth Games in Delhi. Is it because the government wants to shift people's focus from the corruption seen in the games to something which is apparently more sensitive issue for people? Is it an eyewash for the public, trying to divert the focus from the much hoopla and corruption issues in regards to CWG? Is it a planned move? Maybe yes.

Lets Solve Together...

Getting involved with too many things at the same time and you tend to lose focus! It gets really important to set the priorities right and maintain the right balance between things, and this involves the right work-pleasure balance as well.

For the past several months, I was trying to sort out a lot of things, both professionally and personally. Having started on with too many things at the same time gives you a momentary high but at the same times gives you the immense pressure to live up to everyone's expectations, including doing justice to all the projects you got yourself involved in, and you get a reality shock when you come out of the "hangover" phase. With emagespro.com and webcombiz.com having started showing results, it's time for letsolve2gether.com to start running on the highway.

With only 14 days left before the take off, letsolve2gether.com demands an excess of my involvement in making it a success with all the major planning yet to be done. With the content being revised and finalized, the website design still remains a challenge. And once that is done, which I am sure it will be well before the deadline, another task will be to promote it, organizing seminars and webinars, meeting people and the one's who actually need us to "solve IT together" with them. However, the major question still remains: what is this project about?

Letsolve2gether.com is a website through which we plan to target people who need us. It's about people. It's about those who are baffled by life's challenges and find themselves clueless of where to go next. It's about people needing assistance in deciding for their lives, whether in terms of making the right career move, taking the right relationship decisions, dealing with pressure (parental pressure, peer pressure) etc. It's about those who have the right mix of talent and a flair to excel in life, just that it remains unexplored due to various reasons such as lack of confidence, unwillingness of parents to let them take their own decisions, lack of resources, etc. It's about making people realize their worth and their potential, which, over the years has been lost, due to various social and parenting issues.

Letsolve2gether.com aims to help people who get daunted by the unkind and fierce face of life and get into depression; at times, suicidal. We are here to make people aware of various social and "sensitive" issues such as pre-marital pregnancy, awareness about sex and dealing with the same, something we would like to call as "youth awareness". There are a lot of other social causes and issues we will be providing help with, making the younger generation more powerful in their thinking and their approach towards life, educating them with what's what and giving them the right advice in dealing with difficult situations and making them more confident.

This is one project which will always remain close to my heart. Thank you Kiran Didi (short for Kalpana Jaggi, she's my cousin based in New York) for sharing this wonderful idea, we shall surely make it a success. Another 14 days to go for the website launch. So people, check out this space for further updates.

Cleaning your personal space!!

With ironed shirts having lost their crease, trousers having lost their shine, pyjamas and t-shirts having developed lint and other bare essential clothes stuffed within one another, cleaning my almirah was an ordeal this time!

With chocolate wrappers, stained barista bills smelling of caffeine, shopping bills still having the price tag intact, my locker had been the storage for everything small or large. With the faded aroma of greeting cards and hand written notes, credit cards, unused paper napkins from restaurants, bits of photographs and the associated nostalgia - gosh! what a mess.. All this seems a task, especially after a long day's workout and having my neurons cry for mercy! God, I am hungry!

Social media saves lives!

Social media has the potential to connect with millions of people all across the globe. There are a lot of people who use it everyday to remain in touch with each other, to play games to keep themselves entertained, business men and sales men market their products, etc. I too am an active user of the social media professionally. In Delhi, Delhi Traffic Police is using it to challan traffic law breakers based on the photographs uploaded by people!!

However I have a recent experience to share. One of my friend's sister was suffering from Dengue 2 weeks back and her blood platelets count had come down drastically. I wanted someone to donate blood for her since the blood from the blood back could not be used for some reason. Thanks to the social media and few of my friends, there was a rush of people wanting to help us. I wanted 3 donors, I got 12!! People from all across the country who were part of my network on facebook and twitter called and offered to help when I updated my social network about the need!! It was their genuine and honest gesture that my friend's sister is completely safe from the disease. Such is the power of the social media!! Thank you facebook and twitter!!! My words of appreciation also goes for everyone who helped and those who offered to help. Thank you Gaurav, Sheetal, Vikrant, Aditi, Arudreya, Sakshi, Varsha, and Amandeep. Really, it was a nice gesture!! God bless you!

Happy Friendship's day!

I have never understood why is there just one day to celebrate something which is there with you for a lifetime. Friendship's day, valentine's day, mother's day, father's day etc are just a few of them. For me, these relationships are a lifetime of commitment, celebrating them just one a single day makes no sense.

So here's wishing everyone a lifetime of friendship!! To everyone who has been a part of my life, it's my honest and sincere thanks to them, for however big and small contribution they've had in making me the person I am today. Thank you, God bless all!!

Honor killings for love - Still proud to be an Indian??

This post throws a general question to the public and has reference to all the "honor killings" of young people who happen to fall in love with each other and decide to go against the hypocritical society norms, only to make themselves the victim of the ghastly act when they are killed by their relatives. The reason - the fixed and orthodox mindsets of the people which justifies the killings and terms them as "honor killings". Two young people lost their lives just because they loved each other. Is this even human? Are these "killers" can rightfully be called human and sane?

India has been known to have the "see it, shut it, forget it" attitude for a long time. When there were bomb blasts in Delhi and Mumbai, all people came together and there was a rush of anger amongst the citizens, which eventually died down. When there were terrorists attacks in Mumbai, there was a similar flow of emotions, which again, died down in the end. And I am sure even the honor killing episode will fail to push us to the extent of taking a revenge for these honor killings.

My very simple question to the youth of India - What are we doing? The so called student unions of colleges which are known to be powerful - what are they doing towards this? I am sure they have their emotions and the intellect to realize what's going wrong, even they are silent over the issue. This is NOT a job of one person, there has to be a unanimous and powerful force to stop these episodes from happening time and again. It's a shame for our youth, shame for our society and even a bigger shame for our country to witness such incidents, and an EVEN BIGGER shame for the administration to let these events repeat themselves. Is this what we call democracy? Is there a separate clause of "right to kill" in the constitution of India to support the doers of the inhuman and ghastly act of murdering someone on the pretext of "honor"? My appeal to everyone reading this, please do whatever small amount of efforts we can, in making this little spark turn into a fire to burn the existence of everyone who are the protagonists of such inhuman acts, and PLEASE, STOP BEING OBLIVIOUS towards it.

Facebook.. an inspiring story

This is for those who suspects and laughs at people who have a dream. It's your dreams which can take you places, and who can tell this story better than Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder of the social networking giant, facebook!

When Mark Zuckerberg showed up in Palo Alto three years ago, he had no car, no house, and no job. Today, he's at the helm of a smokin'-hot social-networking site, Facebook, and turning down billion-dollar offers. Can this kid be for real?

It was then, and it is now. The site hit the 500 million user mark, is now setting its sights on Russia, Japan, Korea and China in its quest for world domination.

"If we succeed (in innovating and remaining relevant) there is a good chance of bringing this to a billion people… it will be interesting to see how it plays out," Zuckerberg told two packed auditoriums via video link at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. "We are down to just four countries where we aren't the leading social network." he added.

In Russia, just 1 million users currenty use Facebook, though the user figures are 'doubling every six months'. Japan and Korea have similar user bases.

"It's all been very interesting," says Zuckerberg, sitting in a conference room in Facebook's Palo Alto headquarters. He looks every bit the geek in his zippered brown sweatshirt, baggy khakis, and Adidas sandals. He came into the room eating breakfast cereal from a paper bowl with a plastic spoon. He still lives in a rented apartment, with a mattress on the floor and only two chairs and a table for furniture. ("I cooked dinner for a girlfriend once," he admits at one point. "It didn't work well.") He walks or bikes to the office every day.

Zuckerberg's college-kid style reinforces the doubts of those who see the decision to keep Facebook independent as a lapse in judgment. In less than two years, the two reigning Web 2.0 titans have sold out to major corporations: MySpace accepted $580 million to join News Corp., and YouTube took $1.5 billion from Google. Surely any smart entrepreneur would jump at a chance to piggyback on those deals.

You can become a fan of Mark Zuckerberg on facebook. Visit http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mark-Zuckerberg-The-unofficial-fan-page/129577587077073

BikersDNA!!

Okay! Finally the wait is over! Anurag got married, went on his honeymoon and even got back, but I haven't been able to get active on blogger. Well, there were far more important things going on. Let me take this opportunity to share the same with you.

There is another venture I was working on. It was on it's implementation stage and that was what was keeping my so preoccupied. The idea was conceived a few months ago but we guys never found the right time to implement it. Nevertheless, better late than never, so here we are!!

This venture is called BikersDNA. Engines always fascinated me and I was always curious to know how they worked, right from the time I was 7 years old! Even now, engines of all types interest me a lot and I, alongwith a friend of mine have been pretty active with bike modification, performance enhancements and performance tuning. This being our passion, we never found the right guidance when we came across some problem regarding our bikes. Even the best of roadside mechanics were of no use, forget the ones sitting at big service stations. There was no organized market when it came to going one step below the usual bike servicing and even the best in the industry people were skeptical when it came to touching the engine. It was then when it occurred to us to venture out into something like this, where we have our interests and passions to back it up, and we can contribute A LOT to the bikers community with our knowledge and expertize.

Upon working and reworking on the business plan, we finally came up with BikersDNA (www.bikersdna.com). Here at BikersDNA, we want to serve the community in a different manner, since I've always been a person who doesn't like to follow what others do. What different can it get? We currently work on a concept of home servicing, the ONLY OF IT'S KIND IN INDIA. We are the pioneers in promoting the service when a technician will visit your work place or residence and service your vehicle right in front of your eyes. We have taken into account the problems faced by people in maintaining their vehicles, when they are busy with their office chores and personal life and rarely find time to take care of their bikes/ scooty. The vehicle which provides you with life long service and safety while traveling on the road, also demands certain love and care. We do exactly that. Give us a call, write to us, or SMS us, and we'll be right there at your doorstep!

Another difference is that we modify and tweak bike engines to unleash their hidden potential. Many of the bike's engines are underpowered and tuned for mileage. For those who really want to get the maximum out of their bikes, it's gonna be a treat for them. No wonder, there are many people doing the same, but our expertise, and passion will definitely get us an edge over others. Just as an example, we modified a P - 150 CC bike last month and tweaked it to get the maximum performance. The same bike beats any P 200 on the road! Well, if it's a little difficult for you to believe, give us a call and test drive the same bike! You shall surely feel the difference!

Well, let me end here with an open end. Check out http://www.bikersdna.com for all the latest updates. You can also see our blog which is parked at http://blog.bikersdna.com. Do call us if there's anything we can help you with!! Happy revving!

Cheers!

Are you destined to read this?... go ahead!

ज़िन्दगी तो अपने ही दम पर जी जाती है, औरों के कन्धों पे तो जनाज़े ही उठा करते है.

This statement goes for all those people who do not have the strength to live their own lives, and blame others for not been able to achieve what they desire. This goes for everyone out there who blame destiny for their failures, to hide their insincerity, to show the world their helplessness, lack of courage, lack of clarity, vision and strength. Seldom do they realize that life is all about doing your best and achieving what you so dearly want and desire, and there's no fun is accepting whatever comes your way. If you are given 2 lakh rupees every month, you probably won't have that much value for it as compared to the situation when you slog your ass 12 hours a day for 30 days and earn 30 thousand per month. Those 30 thousand will be much more valuable and precious to you than those free 2 lakhs rupees. Something which comes easy doesn't have value and people lose respect and value for the same. Sadly this goes true for human beings also.

People who blame destiny for their failures fail to realize their importance in the whole situation. They never work towards making things right for them, rather wait for "destiny" to make it right for them. They never realize that destiny is never written, we all write our own destiny by how we react to a given situation. Blaming failures on others are nothing but mere excuses and traits of losers and escapists. What is YOUR contribution to the situation? What have YOU done to make things better for yourself rather than just brooding over it and blaming others and making excuses? Do you have the attitude in you to change your world? Can you do it for yourself? Well, it's not everyone's cup of tea and majority of us choose to be this way. Of course, it requires certain degree of maturity to realize this fact and make it a part of your life. Go ahead guys, write your destiny, and the world will be yours!

Thank you mom!

Thank you for everything Ma, you are more than just a mother to me. I look at you for everything, for emotional support, for guidance; you help me with my judgements, and are there with me at all times. In my worst of situations, you were the one who showed me the light and the brighter side of life. You are the one without whom I wouldn't have come out of the situation I was into few months back. You are the true epitome of selfless love I always wanted, someone who's not judgemental about me on baseless things.

You were there with me at my lowest moments in life, when everyone failed to understand me, and when all I needed was a few words of encouragement and love. You were there when I needed you the most, your love and support gave me the strength to bounce back and face the world with a more determined and positive attitude and the belief that yes, I can conquer whatever comes my way! And here I am, back with a vengeance, and a stronger self belief!

Thank you mom, I owe my everything to you. You are a friend, a parent, a guide and a counsellor to me, and I love you a lot! Thanks a lot ma :)

Adding a twist to maggi...

Ever purchased a pack of your favorite maggi only to realise that the taste maker is missing? You try searching it everywhere, try seeing if the pack was puffed, but it's no where to be seen. You yell at your maid if she's the one who stole it!! No luck. Try looking at every corner of the kitchen as if the taste maker magically made it's way out of the pack and hid somewhere. Still no luck!! What do you do next? Throw it? Or buy another pack of maggi and use it's taste maker with the one you have, making it half insipid (yeah, that's the joy of sharing!!)? Some mathematics freaks might buy multiply packs, cook all of them together INCLUDING the one without the taste maker, making the insipid effect a little less apparent (lets call it the insipidity coefficient. Cooking 3 packs together, 2 with taste maker and 1 without, IC = 1/3; with 4 packs: IC = 1/4 etc)!!

Ok, this is what I did. Bored with work, I went to the kitchen looking for something to eat. Deciding between corn, cheese sandwiches or a piece of chocolate, I decided to cook maggi for myself. I happily opened a double pack, only to find only ONE taste maker inside! Initially, I wanted to call up the customer care @ nestle and sue them for their blunder, but then better sense prevailed and I started finding ways to make use of whatever is available at hand, owing to my almost half dead appetite!

Necessity being the mother of invention, I immediately boiled some water, added chopped capsicum, American corns, little salt, red pepper for spice, amchur power and a little finely ground black pepper. After two minutes of boiling, I added the maggi cake, along with 2 teaspoons of butter and half a tea spoon of Chunky Chat Masala!!! To make things better, a grated a little cheese on top of it, once it was off fire. Wow, the aroma was way too appetizing to make up for the loss of it!! I had it with tomato ketchup and pudina chutney!! Yummm!!

Conclusion 1: Whenever there's a problem at hand, look at ways of solving it rather than blaming it on others and creating a piteous situation (I am glad that a mere taste maker, rather the lack of it, was able to teach me this. I feel so proud :D)
Conclusion 2: It's only when there's a problem that you'll think about ways to solve it (very obvious!). Problems open up new avenues, and we use our brain to do something out of the box so as to achieve what we desire.
Conclusion 3: Give it a try; what you get in the end might even be better than what you initially expected. Nevertheless, give it a try, the feeling of having tried and failed is better than not having tried at all (David Deangelo's statement: Shooting for the moon and landing in the mud is better than shooting for the mud and making it)!! (Next time Nestle is going to get a tough time!! :P)

Cheers, bon appetit!

A friend's engagement

It was 2 months back when one of my friends got engaged to his girlfriend of 6 yrs (no, the girlfriend is not 6 yrs old, their relationship is)!! Despite all frictions and the fights (and subsequent breakups and reconciliations) they've had in the past, they finally decided to take the big decision and settle down together. It was truly overwhelming to see them together; the day they waited for so long is finally here!!

The day of the engagement was truly the one to be remembered and treasured forever! It was fun seeing Anurag (that's my friend who got engaged), who was as nervous as one can be! It was pretty apparent from his swelled up face, even the back of his neck was red!! I believe anyone would, being the centre of attraction on this day, something he waited for such a long time and it finally coming true is like a great feeling. One tends to get cautious and tries to put the best foot forward. The best part was when his fiancee was with him for the ring ceremony and he had trouble even putting the ring in her finger, he was as jittery as a a jelly (lol, this reminds me of the Tom and Jerry cartoon, when Tom, after eat the jelly wiggles very much the same way!). The camera captured all the apt emotions! What a day!!

The marriage is on 23th of May, sasan on 21st, and we are again looking forward to some exciting and preservable moments which will be cherished forever! All the best bro, and good luck!!

Finding a book store!

For all the readers out there!! This one goes for you! I was exploring a few book stores in Delhi, trying to find my copy of the latest release by Chetan Bhagat. After a few days of planning, a got up one fine Saturday, took a shower and went out in the blazing sun to Promenade mall in Vasant Kunj. It was a task getting to that place in this heat, and I was completely drenched in sweat before entering the Mall.

After a few minutes, when I cooled down, I went straight to OM book shop, searched for the required copy, met a friend there, chatted for a while, and I came back home. This all took some 3 and a half hours since the time I left home.

A few weeks later, I was telling my brother about my book shopping experience. That's when he suggested my to check out FriendsOfBooks (www.friendsofbooks.com). This is an online book rental and purchase company started by one of his friends. Arti Jain (my brother's school friend) and her husband, Manish Jain were both in US when they conceptualized this idea and soon after returning to India, they took off!

I checked out their website and found it to be pretty neat. Not only does it saves time, it saves the trouble of traveling to the book store in this heat, and making choices, something which i can happily do while sitting at my home! And the best part, they DO NOT have a time period before which I need to return the books, I can keep them as long as wish too, and as long as I am paying the monthly membership fee. I was really impressed by the idea. They also keep organizing events every 2 months.

I just want you guys to check it out, and if you like the service, subscribe to it. It's a pretty neat company providing excellent service. You can also check out their Facebook and Twitter pages.

Transformation of hope into action...

To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that humans are not only about cruelty, but also about compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness. What we choose to do when we are at our all time low (emotionally, monetarily, physically, etc) is what determines our lives. We can choose to brood/ cry/ curse over the happenings and get demotivated, or think about ways of getting out of the situation and working towards the better and a more promising future.

If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something, since we are surrounded by nothing but negative vibes. If we remember those times and places where people have behaved magnificently and succeeded while moving against the flow, despite all odds, that gives us the energy to think positive and act. And when we act with a positive frame of mind, half the battle is already won!

And if we do act, in however small a way, we do not have to wait for some grand future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory! Yes, hope is a big word. Be hopeful and have faith, inshallah... things will work!

This post has been inspired by a dear friend. Hope you are reading this :)

Here it goes! 180 to 200 in 6 hrs!

Okay, the much awaited day arrived, when I and Shashank (he's a school friend) went on and converted our Pulsar 180 CC bike to Pulsar 200!! The bike now run faster than a P-200 since it's on a 180 chassis which is lighter, has sprockets and chain set of 220 CC, jet size 130 and the cam shaft of a P-220!! Not to forget, the new timing chain and new clutch plates as well! Phew!

It all began when the bike started guzzling too much oil, which suggested that the piston rings must have worn out. The bright idea came to Shashank's mind, that since the piston rings anyway needs replacement, why not gift the bike with a brand new engine, since the engine anyway needs to be dismantled. It took us around 2 hrs to google out the service manuals of P 180 and P 200, quarter of a dozen trips to the hardware store to get the required tools, half a dozen trips to Karol Bagh to get the spares, gaskets, casings etc, and about a dozen of those famous "roshan di kulfi" of Karol Bagh to finally get all the required stuff to take the first step! And the result: we now have a P 200 with greater compression ratio (since only the piston and the bore got changed, the head is still the same), greater top speed (since we put smaller sprockets, the pickup reduced a little but the top spead increased. It touched 150 kmph!!), and more agility. It truly leaps like a cheetah now!! Check out the pics and the video!

Decided on the marketing roadmap

We have decided on the marketing roadmap for emagespro (www.emagespro.com) and the required efforts which needs to be put in. It was in the pipeline for a long time but it never took the priority. Now that we have defined the targets for everyone in the team and increased our team size as well, it's the best time to streamline our efforts. Which effectively means more busy weekdays and even busier weekends!!

Tanmoy and I will be leading the efforts for this. Ok, for the uninitiated, Tanmoy leads the marketing efforts for Emagespro. It's only because of his dedicated efforts that Emagespro has reached the level where it is today. We are pretty confident that our efforts will reap the desired results and we'll soon be able to see Emagespro as an emerging leader in providing quality digital marketing services.
